Emergency Water Filter

Betta medical EMERGENCY?
My older betta, Tertius, just got sucked into my filter!
Well, sucked "against" is probably more appropriate.
We don't know how long he was there, because we just got up, but his body and fins were stuck flush against the intake for the filter. We turned it off and he freed himself, but then sank to the the bottom.
He's still alive, but it seems that only half his body is working. He can't raise his head up and the side that was to the filter isn't moving at all.
The damage report:
He's REALLY pale and discolored, with funny spots all over his body.
His dorsal fin is GONE.
He sinks head-first to the bottom if we let him go.
If we manually bring him to the top, he'll struggle a little and breathe, but he won't eat and if we let him go, he just head-firsts to the bottom.
We've got him in a very small amount of water right now and he's trying occasionally to struggle his way to the top.
What do we do?!
I know you're trying to help, but he's in shock, so don't move or pester him any more, except to make sure that he's in a quiet spot where there will be as little noise or movement as possible.
Don't bother trying to feed him yet, bettas can survive at least 5 days without food with no ill effect, and giving him food he doesn't eat will mean you'll have to change the water, disturbing him more. If he's still with you in 48 hours you can try to feed him a small amount.
Honestly, he will probably go. I am one who does think bettas should have at least a 2.5 gal tank and that it's fine to have a filter with them, but it has to be the smallest filter possible and at the lowest setting to avoid having this happen.
If the filter has been in there like that a long time, probably what happened is that it was set up fine but he was getting sick anyway and just lost the strength to swim away.
Sorry to hear this, I love my betta too and know you can get really attached to a fish!
